Bellagio
This photograph was taken on my first trip to Europe. Driving south from Zurich I was enthralled with the splendor of the Swiss and Italian Alps. The beauty of the nearby Dolimites and Italian Lake District is stunning.
To me, Bellagio on Lake Como was like Lake Tahoe, only with incredible antiquity everywhere. This quiet back alley neighborhood in Bellagio was bathed in afternoon sunlight, which caught my eye and drew my attention up the path.
It was my hope that the picture would convey the sense of beckoning that I experienced. The design and impeccable craftsmanship the Italians display also intrigued me. This simple classic Roman arch with keystone and plinth blocks is a truly elegant counterpoint to some of the "gilded lilies" in the city.
