LArche Bleue Marine

This France photo was made on Ile de Ré, an island off the Atlantic coast of Brittany. The closest large town is La Rochelle. I heard about this area of France at an art show in Madison,WI. It is seldom visited by Americans because there is so much else to see in the tourist hot spots like Paris and Provence, and all parts in between.

I made this photograph in an alley in a quiet part of the town. The turquoise color stuck out because most of the buildings on the island have green trim. The area is known for its hollyhocks which were not quite in bloom when we were there. Some of the buildings are very old going back to the 17th century in this quaint seaside area.
