Apremont Sur Allier

This gem of a town was not always so charming. It had fallen into disrepair and “modernizing” which left it rather unappealing. After World War II a wealthy man decided to restore it to its former beauty. It reminds me of how Williamsburg in the US was restored with inspiration from W.A.R. Goodwin and money from John D Rockefeller Jr. While not as large as Williamsburg, it oozes with charm and beauty and is towered over by the Hotel Auvergne on a hill overlooking the village.

I explored many angles, but realized I might not be able to truly capture the essence of the place because we had little time as we were just passing through this corner of Burgundy. Some of the scenes needed morning light and some afternoon – due to jet lag I was a bit out of phase, as we had driven directly to Apremont sur Allier after arriving in Paris early in the morning.
